Condom use for preventing HIV infection/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa

Article Abstract:

The relationships between the individuals-, household-, and community-level variables and condom use to prevent HIV infection in women and men in Uganda and Tanzania is explored using multilevel modeling. The condom use was improved due to the knowledge about HIV and perceiving oneself to be at risk for contracting HIV infection.

Cancer risk in elderly persons with HIV/AIDS

Article Abstract:

The AIDS data from 1981 - 1996 identified (60+ years old) and their records were linked to data in local cancer registries, finding 1142 cases. The cancer risks profile of elderly persons with AIDS (EPWAs) generally resembled that in younger adults with AIDS, though RRs were lower due to higher background incidence rates.

Failure to return for HIV test results among persons at high risk for HIV infection

Article Abstract:

The frequency of self-reported failure to return for HIV test results (FTR) and associated reasons among persons at high risk for HIV infection is studied. Further it is suggested that increased pretest counseling on fear of learning HIV status and on availability of rapid testing may help reduce FTR.
