Court to decide if contract clause between docs and PPM is valid

A Florida District Court of Appeals is deciding whether a standard contract provision between a physician practice management firm and its physicians is legal. The Florida Board of Medicine has already declared that one of three performance fees paid by an affiliate to PhyMatrix physician practice management company was illegal The physicians paid 30% of their net income derived from their practices to PhyMatrix.

Cincinnati's largest employers have had some success in their efforts to force hospitals and doctors to control their costs. Any remaining complacency in the market has disappeared, however, because costs have started rising again, and because giant health insurer Humana has acquired ChoiceCare, a local health maintenance organization. An overview of the Cincinnati healthcare market is presented.
