Dads as breastfeeding advocates: Results from a randomized controlled trial of an educational intervention

Article Abstract:

The aim of this study was to eliminate misconceptions through education to teach fathers how to advocate on behalf of breastfeeding and to teach the fathers how to work with their partner to make breastfeeding successful. The data serve as an invitation to breastfeeding to advocates to include fathers in programs that promote breastfeeding and to test innovative educational programs that are designed to increase the incidence and duration of breastfeeding.

Article Abstract:

The available medical education teaching techniques are reviewed and their roles in medical educational paradigm are evaluated. Implementing evidence-based practice: evaluation of an opinion leader strategy to improve breast-feeding rates

Article Abstract:

The effectiveness of opinion leaders in raising breast-feeding rates is evaluated in 18 hospitals in Central New York State. The opinion leader strategy does not improve breast-feeding rates and hence it is suggested that such strategies may make assumptions about clinician control that are not justified in situations such as breast-feeding.
