Tough decisions

Article Abstract:

The implementation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation provides an ethical dilemma for nurses. Doctors, nurses, patients and families should decide whether it is appropriate. Codes of practice have limited value in ethical dilemmas and possible outcomes of intervention should be assessed. Withholding resuscitation is ethically justifiable if it is the patient's wish. However, each case should be treated individually.
