Debilitating discrimination

Article Abstract:

The Disabilities Discrimination Bill will create employment rights for those with disabilities and will make employers responsible for their working environments. The NHS will be under close scrutiny as a public body and may be encouraged to take a lead. Guinette Davies, adviser for the RCN's Work-Injured Nurses Group, believes that disability organisations will want to establish case law and be keen to take up the gauntlet on behalf of disabled persons.

Life support: the recruitment and management policies of some aid agencies are under fire in a new report

Article Abstract:

Agencies have agreed that a code of practice on recuitment and management of staff is required, helped by the creation of a professional body.

Child death inquiry calls for increase in support for HVs

Article Abstract:

The 'Paul - Death Through Neglect' inquiry into the death of a 15-month old baby has revealed a need for greater child protection support for health visitors. Paul died of neglect, after being left soaked in urine and covered in sores. A recent survey has revealed that over half of health visitors questioned were refused a referral to social services, which resulted in unbearable stress on the health visitor.
