Dietary glycemic index in relation to metabolic risk factors and incidence of coronary heart disease: the Zutphen Elderly Study

Article Abstract:

A new study investigates the links between a high dietary glycemic index and the incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) in elderly men. Results suggest that a high glycemic index diet does not increase the risk of CHD in elderly men.

Fruit and fish consumption; a possible explanation for population differences in COPD mortality (The Seven Countries Study)

Article Abstract:

Research shows that cigarette smoking is connected with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) but there appear to be other factors, such as diet, that influence COPD rates. A new study investigates the protective effects of dietary antioxidants against damage which could lead to COPD in an attempt to explain the population differences in COPD deaths. The study of 40-59-year-old men enrolled in the Seven Countries Study finds that fish and fruit intake may partly explain differences in COPD mortality.
