Dilemma seen in conflict of economics, medical needs

Article Abstract:

Some physicians have recently argued that a new kind of national agency may be required to conserve quality medical care for patients in the face of commercial pressures from corporate investors. Another physician opined that existing structures simply need to be redirected toward this goal, and that progress is already being made toward protecting medical professionalism from profit motives. Potential hazards to medical care from the impact of commercialization are discussed.
