Direct contracting: a new wave for subacute care

Article Abstract:

Direct contracting is being used as a cost control measure for subacute care. Employers form groups to directly contract with subacute care providers, bypassing managed care organizations. The trend raises issues concerning price and quality of care. Subacute care providers can increase market share by forming consortia, creating virtual relationships or positioning themselves as niche players. The niche strategy may offer the best option for providers.
