Discrimination in health care

Article Abstract:

Despite advances in medical equality that came with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 there still appear to be discrepancies in health care delivery by race. Health care providers should be the leaders in addressing this and underlying issues. Discrepancies between the races have been seen in access to advanced heart procedures and extended nursing care and types of treatment for prostate cancer and amputations. Differences in health care delivery have also been observed for poorer populations. Access to insurance coverage may be only one of many underlying issues that need to be addressed to bridge these inequities.
