Hospitalization rates in an urban cohort after the introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy

Article Abstract:

Hospitalization rates among HIV patients decreased between 1995 and 1996 after highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) was introduced but increased again between 1997 and 1998. This could be a result of the fact that HIV patients now live longer and may be hospitalized for other reasons.

Does the presence of a current psychiatric disorder in AIDS patients affect the initiation of antiretroviral treatment and duration of therapy?

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted among a group of patients diagnosed with AIDS to investigate whether the presence of a psychiatric disorder in AIDS patients affect the initiation of highly active antiviral therapy (HAART) and duration of therapy. The results show that patients with psychiatric disorders receiving HAART were able to reap the survival benefit by remaining on it.

An improvement in virologic response to highly active antiretroviral therapy in clinical practice from 1996 through 2002

Article Abstract:

A comparison of all patients who started a first highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) regimen from 1996 through 2002 in a longitudinal cohort of HIV-infected patients in care was done in Baltimore. The results suggested that there has been an improvement in viral suppression and in CD4 response associated with initial HAART.
