Critics say drug-eluting stents overused

Article Abstract:

Two studies presented in September 2006 at the World Congress of Cardiology give ammunition to those who suggest percutaneous coronary intervention using drug-eluting stents was being overused in light of lack of evidence surrounding long-term safety and efficiency. Long-term use of drug-eluting stents are also suggested to increase the chances of coronary artery thrombosis and death, and to overcome all this, second generation drug-eluting stents are being proposed that could limit the long-term risk of thrombosis.

For non-English speakers, drug label instructions can be lost in translation

Article Abstract:

The pharmacists' role in providing critical information about the medications to non-English speaking patients is discussed. It is the responsibility of the physicians to ensure that patients are made aware about the prescription medicine and guide them to proper pharmacies that have the ability to translate prescriptions.
