Storm-water regulation on the rise

Article Abstract:

The EPA provided for the implementation of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) in Nov 1990. NPDES requires facilities which gather storm water for industrial purposes to get a discharge permit. Industries and facilities that are obligated to have permits include those in manufacturing, hazardous waste management, mining and airports. The permit can be obtained through group, individual, or general permit option applications. Requirements and deadlines for the different types of permit applications are presented.

Rule will reduce air pollution from landfills

Article Abstract:

A ruling issued by the EPA aims to respond to the call for environmental sanitation by proper waste management. The ruling is expected to decrease toxic emissions and harmful air pollutants from municipal landfills by 50% by requiring landfill operators to drill collection wells into the landfill. The methane gas generated from the landfills can be synthesized and reused for fueling purposes. However, an issue is raised regarding the profitability of gas recovery system that has a significant effect on landfill management.
