Does magnesium sulfate reduce the short- and long-term requirements for pain relief after caesarean delivery? A double-blind placebo-controlled trial

Article Abstract:

A double-blind placebo-controlled trial was conducted to determine whether magnesium sulfate could be used to decrease analgesic requirement after cesarean delivery, to investigate whether the severity of early postoperative pain was reduced and to determine the incidence of residual wound pain at 6 weeks after surgery. The trial concluded that magnesium sulfate did not reduce the severity of short-term or long-term pain after cesarean delivery.

Timing of conduction analgesia in labor

Article Abstract:

The widespread use of conduction analgesia has dramatically altered the experiences of many laboring patients in much of the developed world, over the past 30 years. The intrapartum conduction analgesia is clearly efficacious, if the pain relief is the end point, but important questions remain on the timing, control, and effect upon the overall labor experience of this valuable medical technique.
