Easing the pressure for hip fracture patients

Article Abstract:

An increase in the incidence of hip fractures in Western countries has occurred, and the majority of patients are over 65. Women are also more likely to suffer than men. Two research projects are investigating the care and treatment of patients, with particular attention being paid to pressure sores. The studies are looking into the link between mattresses in poor condition and pressure sores, and the use of Hamilton-Russel skin traction.

A protocol for care of skeletal pin sites

Article Abstract:

A description is presented of the technique which should be used for the care of skeletal pin sites in order to prevent osteomyelitis resulting from pin-site infection. Cleaning solutions and crust removal are discussed.
