Effect of coinfection with GB virus C on survival among patients with HIV infection

Article Abstract:

HIV patients who are also infected with the hepatitis G virus have a better prognosis than other HIV patients, according to a study of 362 HIV patients. This may occur because the hepatitis G virus, which is also called the GB virus C, inhibits HIV replication.

Infection with GB virus C and reduced mortality among HIV-infected patients

Persistent GB virus C infection and survival in HIV-infected men

Article Abstract:

GB virus C replicates in lymphocytes inhibits the replication of HIV in vitro and is associated with a decreased risk of death among HIV positive persons in some studies. It is concluded that GB virus C is significantly associated with prolonged survival among HIV positive men.
