Effect of exercise on coronary endothelial function in patients with coronary artery disease

Article Abstract:

Exercise can improve blood flow in the coronary arteries of patients with coronary artery disease. It also prevents the arteries from constricting, which would cut off blood flow. This was the conclusion of researchers who randomly assigned 19 patients with coronary artery disease to an exercise therapy group or a control group who did not exercise. Doppler echocardiography was used to measure blood flow in the coronary arteries. Exercise increased blood flow and decreased arterial constriction.

Effects of Exercise Training on Left Ventricular Function and Peripheral Resistance in Patients With Chronic Heart Failure: A Randomized Trial

Article Abstract:

Patients with chronic heart failure may benefit from exercise training. This was the conclusion of researchers who randomly assigned 73 men with chronic but stable heart failure to receive no exercise training or two weeks of in-hospital exercise training followed by 6 months of exercise at home for 20 minutes a day. At the end of 6 months, those who received exercise training had less severe symptoms and a slight reduction in the size of their heart.

Intracoronary bone marrow-derived progenitor cells in acute myocardial infarction

Article Abstract:

The Reinfusion of Enriched Progenitor Cells and Infarct Remodeling in Acute Myocardial Infarction (REPAIR-AMI) trial was conducted to determine whether intracoronary infusion of enriched bone marrow (BMC) is associated with improved global left ventricular function in patients with myocardial infarction treated with state-of-the-art methods. Results show that after acute myocardial infarction, the intracoronary administration of BMC enhances recovery of left ventricular contractile function.
