Effects of tibolone and continuous combined conjugated equine estrogen/medroxyprogesterone acetate on the endometrium and vaginal bleeding: Results of the OPAL study

Article Abstract:

The Osteoporosis Prevention and Arterial effects of tibo-Lone (OPAL) study is used to compare the effect of tibolone and placebo on the progression of the common carotid artery intima-medial thickness and also to assess the effects of tibolone, continuous combined conjugated equine estrogen/medroxyprogesterone acetate and placebo on the endometrium and vaginal bleeding. The results have shown that compared to conjugated equine estrogen/medroxyprogesterone acetate, tibolone has a better tolerability profile with respect to vaginal bleeding but with a similar endometrial safety.

Hormone replacement therapy and body size: how much does lifestyle explain?

Article Abstract:

Lifestyle alone does not completely explain why women who use hormone replacement therapy are thinner than those who don't. Researchers measured body mass and analyzed diet, smoking, physical activity and other behaviors in 1,658 postmenopausal women, 28% of whom used hormone replacement therapy. Women on hormone replacement therapy were thinner and leaner than non-users, had a higher education and a healthier diet. However, lifestyle accounted for only 28% of the difference in body mass between the two groups of women.
