Expanding priorities - Confronting chronic disease in countries with low income

Article Abstract:

A sizeable burden of disease in low-income nations is due to noncommunicable chronic diseases, but most international health organizations focus mainly on the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. It is possible to cure several of the world's non-communicable chronic diseases, but in order to do so, global aid agencies will have to devote additional resources to this effort, particularly in the poorer countries.

Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease

Article Abstract:

Research on hereditary cases of Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease may shed light on the non-hereditary cases. These two diseases are the most common neurodegenerative diseases. Hereditary cases are caused by gene mutations that create abnormal proteins that damage brain cells.

Effectiveness of atypical antipsychotic drugs in patients with Alzheimer's disease

Article Abstract:

The effectiveness of atypical antipsychotic drugs in outpatients with Alzheimer's disease is assessed. Adverse effects offset advantages in the efficacy of atypical antipsychotic drugs for the treatment of psychosis, aggression, or agitation in patients with Alzheimer's disease.
