FDA proposes consumer guides with prescription drugs

Article Abstract:

The FDA is proposing a new drug education program to pharmacists to improve compliance among patients. Studies indicate that 30% to 50% of patients fail to follow prescriptions properly because they are ill-informed. The agency wants pharmacists to include written instructions with filled prescriptions. Leaflets, together with counseling, have proven effective. The goal is to have 75% of patients receiving such information by the year 2000.
