Factors linking women and CHD

Article Abstract:

In 1992, over 76,000 women died of coronary heart disease, representing 23% of all deaths. Although the production of oestrogen can protect women from the disease, its protective effects diminish after the menopause. Risk factors include smoking, hypertension, blood cholesterol, alcohol consumption, diabetes, obesity, and lack of exercise. It is suggested that awareness of the disease and its risk factors should be improved.

Critical pathways and mother-baby coupling

Article Abstract:

Mother-baby couplet care involves caring for the mother and infant as a single unit and use of critical pathways with combined help from nursery postpartum staff. Staff members track the patients' progress using critical pathways tools and identify any changes in mother or infant health. The program enhances both mother and child coupling and serves to improve communication between nursery and postpartum staff.
