Families under stress: how nurses can help

Article Abstract:

The death or illness of a patient can have a serious affect on the health of the relatives and supporting such families is an integral part of nursing. Health visitors are expected to play a vital role in family support but may feel they need help in developing their skills in family work, which is founded on the ability to think systematically. A case study is presented.

Coupling sexual health with family planning

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted on working across the fields of genitourinary medicine and family planning. Steve Kinrade, family planning and genitourinary medicine nurse believes that being male has helped boost the number of male and female clients attending his clinics and he could do this mainly due to his good communication skills and good interpersonal skills.

Do you have to be a nurse in order to be a health visitor?

Article Abstract:

Contrasting views are presented on the subject of whether health visitors in the UK should be trained nurses. Some observers feel that there is no logic behind the requirement for health visitors to undergo nursing training, while others believe that a knowledge of illness and disease is an essential element of health visiting.
