Feasibility studies can help you control your future

Article Abstract:

Physicians that are about to make a serious decision about the future of their practices should conduct a feasibility study first to help them understand the impact of that decision. Such a study should include an evaluation of the entire operation, the market served and the competition involved. It should also include a proposal for future operations, a financial analysis and an action plan incorporating a budget. In addition, the study should be carried out by a health care consultant with experience in the managed care field to ensure objectivity and accuracy.

Why physicians get deselected - and how to prevent it

Article Abstract:

Managed care plans employ physicians to attract patients, but after capturing market share, the plans may tighten requirements. For instance, they may refuse to renew contracts of doctors without board certification. Doctors may survey patients concerning their satisfaction with services and with office personnel. Doctors should also cooperate with managed care plans that support preventive care and patient education.

Are you prepared for a managed care audit?

Article Abstract:

HMOs conduct physical inspections of contracting physicians' facilities. It can be useful for doctors, in preparation for HMO audits, to inspect their own facilities. HMO inspections focus on safety, patients' special needs, record keeping, access to care, and medications. HMOs also conduct patient-satisfaction audits, and physicians should survey their patients, to prepare for such audits.
