Tobacco and Alcohol Use in G-Rated Children's Animated Films

Article Abstract:

Many animated movies for children contain characters that use tobacco or alcohol. Researchers analyzed 50 animated movies produced for children between 1937 and 1997. Thirty-four of the movies had at least one episode of alcohol or tobacco use and 28 had more than one episode. Cigars were more frequent than cigarettes and wine more frequent than other liquors. Good characters were just as likely to use tobacco or alcohol as bad characters. Most of the movies did not portray the adverse health consequences of tobacco or alcohol use.

Health-related quality of life of severely obese children and adolescents

Article Abstract:

Children and teenagers who are obese have a lower quality of life than those who are not, according to a study of 106 obese children and teenagers. In fact, these children and teenagers have a quality of life similar to children and teenagers who have cancer. Obstructive sleep apnea can also affect quality of life.
