The maternal-fetal transfer of bisheteropiperazine (U-87201-E) in the ex vivo human placenta

Article Abstract:

Bisheteroypiperazine, a new HIV antiviral medication, passed readily across the placenta in laboratory experiments. Segments of fresh placentas had catheters placed on both the maternal and fetal sides. Bisheteroypiperazine infused into the maternal side passed readily to the fetal side. The mechanism appears to be simple diffusion and does not appear to involve a placental transport mechanism. With the increasing resistance of HIV to zidovudine, new medications must be found to protect the fetuses of HIV-infected mothers. Whether bisheteroypiperazine could damage the forming fetus is as yet unknown but should be studied.

Failure of decidual arteriolar remodeling in the CBA/J X DBA/2 murine model of recurrent pregnancy loss is linked to increased expression of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 2 (TIMP-2)

Article Abstract:

A study is carried out to elucidate any differences in structural remodeling in normal murine pregnancies versus those differences that resulted from the crossing of CBA/J female mice by DBA/2 male mice, a combination that is known to exhibit recurrent resorption/pregnancy loss. The expansive vascular remodeling of decidual vessels that is characteristic of normal murine pregnancy is attenuated significantly in the CBA/J X DBA/2 mating combination, which is known for its tendency to recurrent fetal resorption.
