Firing lines: the new fire precaution regulations

Article Abstract:

The new Fire Precautions (Places of Work) Regulations 1992 will come into effect for new workplaces on Jan 1 1993 and on Jan 1 1996 for existing workplaces. The regulations apply to: all workplaces where there 1 or more employees; premises where the self-employed work as long as the public have access and schools, hospitals and universities not previously covered. Private and country houses open to the public and without employees are not affected. Assessments of fire risk to employees will have to be made as well as measures such as, an emergency plan and employee training.

Spotlight on fire: The new regs

Article Abstract:

Legislation for fire regulations in the workplace have yet to be fully implemented by United Kingdom government. The new regulations include extra powers for the fire service who can impose fire safety standards onto businesses. The fire service will also be able to give advice concerning compliance to the new rules. Some of the proposals in the regulations allow the employer to determine level of risk for employees. The new regulations are in accordance with the European Union directives concerning safety.

Third attempt at fire safety regs

Article Abstract:

A two tier system for enforcement of fire procedures in the workplace may soon be introduced in the UK. The use of criminal sanctions are only being advocated in serious cases, with civil sanctions applying to minor infringements. There may also be changes to the certification system and under the new proposals the method of obtaining building control approvals will be simplified.
