Fork truck training - don't be mislead

Article Abstract:

The ITSSAR (Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register) has published training guidelines to aid the existing confusion on training standards of fork-lift operators. According to the ITSSAR most training boards cannot agree on a common certificate of training. Many construction companies only recognise training from the Construction Industry Training Board. ITSSAR recognises qualifications from properly trained lift truck instructors who are registered with other accredited bodies. It produces examination papers and monitors all training organisations registered under its scheme.

Truck drivers under pressure

Article Abstract:

Research into health and stress among road haulage drivers in the UK indicates that problems with drug and alcohol abuse are common. A drug and alcohol policy has been introduced by 65% of transport companies, but only 11% actually go as far as testing drivers. Transport companies are generally well aware that drivers can suffer from stress, but most are taking no effective action to deal with the problem.

Dumper truck research reveals design limitations

Article Abstract:

Many construction site dumpers may be unstable in certain conditions according to research sponsored by HSE, and undertaken by scientists at the Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL). This followed concern over the number of accidents which involved site dumpers. The research also showed that visibility from driving seats varies considerably.
