The professor who testified against Thomas before the 1991 Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing was heartened to hear words of encouragement and praise from supporters at a Glamour awards ceremony. A young African American waitperson in particular touched her.

An Afro-American woman is annoyed with being a drug smuggling suspect. She was searched and questioned on several occasions by drug enforcement agents and customs officials because her appearance fits the profile of a drug smuggler.
