General Psychiatry

Article Abstract:

Studies have shown that interpersonal psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and antidepressant drugs are equally effective in treating mild depression. However, psychotherapy plus drug therapy is more effective than psychotherapy alone severe or recurrent depression. Newer drugs for schizophrenia include clozapine, olanzapine, quetiapine, risperidone, sertindole, and ziprasidone. These drugs have fewer side effects than older drugs. Antidepressants are also effective in smoking cessation programs. Brain imaging has shown some differences in brain anatomy in the mentally ill.
