Getting the message: communications systems rescue doctors from a sea of pink slips

Article Abstract:

A number of new message retrieval systems allow doctors to send and receive messages while seeing a patient. The basic units, which cost $375 to $600, can be leased or purchased. Most units include keyboards, printers, and the ability to send messages to units in other offices or across the country. Units range in size from a large calculator to a small typewriter. Messages can be typed in or simple messages may be sent by pushing a single button. A list of manufacturers and their products is included.

RBRVS

Article Abstract:

Group medical practices increasingly are using resource-based relative value scales (RBRVS) to set the compensation of their physicians. RBRVS is a fair way to determine compensation amid a range of payer systems, group practice administrators say. RBRVS also helps group practices judge whether a managed care contract will adequately reimburse the practice for its services. Administrators can adjust RBRVS to reflect geographical differences in costs and compensation.
