Groups must negotiate ways to change income division

Article Abstract:

Some physician group practices are changing the way they pay their member doctors in response to the changes brought on by the expansion of managed care. It is often difficult for physicians to agree unanimously to an income division plan because individual doctors have different income expectations. Sometimes, it works best to phase in an income division plan. It is important for all the members to meet and attempt to reach a consensus regarding income division. A professional consultant can often be helpful.

Salaries for employed physicians plateau, start to drop

Article Abstract:

A survey by William M. Mercer Inc indicates that in 1994, physician salaries for group practice, hospitals and health maintenance organizations declined 2.3% to an average $145,005 from $148,424 in 1993. Survey data for the three previous years shows that physicians' salaries increased about $10,000/yr for each of those years. Eighty-one percent of the 191 surveyed organizations offered raises in 1994, compared to 83% in 1993 and 87% in 1992.
