Guidelines seek to standardize care for diseased heart valves

Article Abstract:

Guidelines intended to standardize management of patients with valvular heart disease stress the importance of early diagnosis and advice valve repair rather than valve replacement for most patients. The updated guidelines, published on June 16, 2006, by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association reflect improved techniques, advances in chronic valve disease management, and shifts in policy since the earlier version of guidelines published in 1998.
