HIV prevention helping, but not enough

Article Abstract:

AIDS prevention programs are beginning to pay off in some parts of the world. Experts at an American Medical Association press briefing before the 11th International Conference on AIDS said changes in high risk behaviors in developing countries have resulted in drops in new infections. Thailand and Uganda, countries with high rates, showed great improvement. The number of new AIDS cases as a percentage of all cases has also dropped in the US.

More geriatrics training needed as population ages

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association and American Association of Medical Colleges are calling for improved geriatric care in response to the rising population of older Americans. The need for geriatricians is expected to increase by more than five times the current supply of 6,000 by the year 2000. Few medical colleges require geriatrics courses as part of their curriculum.
