Thickened toenails: Common, embarrassing

Article Abstract:

Injury, psoriasis, tight or poorly fitting shoes and fungal infections are the many factors that can cause one or more toenail to become thickened. The most common cause is a fungal infection called onychomycosis which begins as a yellow or white spot under the tip of a nail and with the spread of infection, the nail thickens and becomes crumbly and ragged leading to separation from the nail bed.
