Health at your service

Article Abstract:

Occupational health teams in the NHS are responsible for assessing an individual's fitness for work, providing advice to managers and staff, and assisting managers in the promotion of good general workplace health and helping them comply with statutory compliance. The NHS Executive report on OH services recommended that nurses should undergo formal health screening in their first posts after qualifying and calls on general practitioners to state whether something in a a person's history would make them unsuitable for the proposed occupation.

Article Abstract:

A new consultative document is expected from the HSE following a review of safe systems of work in confined spaces. There are often misconceptions about dealing with gas problems in confined space. Gas monitors should be compared and adjusted prior to each use and monitoring gases should be undertaken in several areas, as some gases will stratify naturally at different levels.
