Heart imaging: Matching the best view to you

Article Abstract:

The best test suitable for a patient with a chest pain and determining the risk of certain heart conditions by giving the best treatment available is discussed. In cases of emergency, an electrocardiogram is the initial test, which helps in determining whether the heart is conducting electrical impulses properly and if an area in the heart is not getting enough blood flow due to a blood clot.

Cardiac PET scans: Sometimes, a clearer answer

Article Abstract:

Positron Emissive Tomography (PET) scanning is a diagnostic tool, which in some cases is more accurate than many other noninvasive tests, to detect Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). They provide information about activities, such as blood or metabolism, within certain tissues or organs and are also used to diagnose neurological disease like epilepsy, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

The working of the echocardiography, which provides a look at the structure and function of the heart, is described. Echocardiography, though an expensive screening tool, has many advantages as it can be done on people of all ages, which is painless and risk-free.
