High HIV prevalence among a high-risk subgroup of women attending sexually transmitted infection clinics in Pune, India

Article Abstract:

Changes since 1996 in prevalence and correlates of HIV among high-risk women attending sexually transmitted infection (STI) clinics in Pune, India, who deny a history of commercial sex work (CSW) are investigated. Such women represent a small, hidden subgroup and are likely put at risk for HIV because of high-risk behavior of their male partners, generally their husbands.

Declining HIV infection rates among recently married primigravid women in Pune, India

Article Abstract:

The estimation of the trajectory of HIV transmission rates among lately married, monogamous, primigravid women attending a single large antenatal clinics in Pune, India showed a decrease in high-risk sexual behavior among young married men and was observed to be most likely contributing factor for decrease in HIV-risk to wives and children.

Clinically significant anemia in HIV- infected pregnant women in India is not a major barrier to zidovudine use for prevention of maternal-to-child transmission

Article Abstract:

The prevalence of anemia is determined to assess the zidovudine use and toxicity in HIV-positive pregnant women in India. A significant proportion of HIV-positive pregnant women in India present for antenatal care with anemia, however, zidovudine use is not associated with persistent or worsening anemia.
