Hindbrain herniation develops in surgically created myelomeningocele but is absent after repair in fetal lambs

Article Abstract:

Prenatal correction of a myelomeningocele can prevent the end of the brain from protruding through the skull into the neck. A myelomeningocele is an opening in the back the allows the spine to protrude through. Loss of cerebrospinal fluid through the opening may cause a pressure imbalance that in turn causes the brain to protrude into the neck.

Radiofrequency ablation of human fetal sacrococcygeal teratoma

Article Abstract:

Doctors describe the treatment of a type of tumor called sacrococcygeal teratoma in four fetuses using radiofrequency ablation. This procedure involves inserting a small probe into the mother's abdomen that is guided to the tumor by ultrasound imaging. Radiofrequency energy is used to destroy the blood vessels that feed the tumor.
