How I coped with... the Pakistan earthquake

Article Abstract:

Firmeda Din, just one month after qualifying as a nurse, set off for Islamabad to help treat survivors of the horrific earthquake that killed 73,000 people and injured nearly 70,000. She had completed clinical placements in theatre, A&E, surgical, high-dependency and adult leukemia units, as well as general medical wards but nothing had prepared her for the devastation she faced on landing and the sheer desperation of the situation and that the people really needed help kept her going.

Modernization is key to survival of district nursing

Article Abstract:

Community nurse leaders are of the view that besides community matrons, a wholesale restructuring of nursing provision outside hospital is required to meet future health care challenges. What does PBC have to offer nurses?

Article Abstract:

'Practice-based commissioning' (PBC) is part of the new way of deciding what healthcare services would be set up in the community and is central to the wider National Health Service reforms. Under PBC individual general practitioner practices decide what health services should be provided in their local area and who should provide them and they are given a budget to pay for all episodes of patient care in both acute and community settings.
