How OSHA standards are born

Article Abstract:

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has to meet the conditions for a proposal set by a recent presidential executive order before it can proceed with actual rulemaking. At the initial stage, OSHA determines subjects for rulemaking based on input from different sources. The agency then publishes the notice for the proposed rulemaking. A public-comment period follows, then another notice is published until the second comment period starts. Public hearings are conducted prior to another comment period until finally, a final rule is reached.

Violence rips through the global workplace

Article Abstract:

The incidence of workplace violence throughout the world is on the rise despite the absence of accurate figures. Although some violent acts are random, most occur during encounters with irate customers, disgruntled workers and outraged partners. Numerous interest groups have been working with their respective governments to curb workplace violence. Aside from lobbying for stricter legislation against workplace violence, these groups have been conducting studies to develop more effective measures of preventing violence.

Farm safety in Britain: old ways meet new times

Article Abstract:

Dozens of UK agricultural workers die each year because of unintentional incidents. Many workers get sick or disabled because of hazardous exposure to noise, vibration, chemicals and organic dusts. The farm safety record of UK is alarmingly bad compared with other European countries. UK's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) distributes different brochures on agricultural safety. HSE also educates agricultural workers on recent legislation that pertains to farm safety.
