How a primary care specialist role for HIV/AIDS was set up

Article Abstract:

A nurse facilitator was appointed on a three-year contract to assess and develop the primary health care services offered to HIV and AIDS patients in a health authority in London, UK. The nurse visited 60% of local doctors' surgeries and information was sent to the others. The nurse also helped to write guidelines for a health and safety policy, covering issues such as dealing with sharps and needlestick injuries. Training sessions on HIV and AIDS were set up for primary health care staff and information and support was made available to everyone who deals with these patients.
