How to responsibly manage employee retirement plan

Article Abstract:

Employers must make sure they are in compliance with the stipulations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act if they are not to be considered liable by their employees for the poor performance of the retirement benefit plans they offer. To avoid liability, employers should specify the principal features of their employee retirement plan. These include the plan's type, investment schedule, attendant liabilities, matching contribution restrictions and potential risk and gain factors.

Private pension plan may give best yield at retirement

Article Abstract:

A private pension plan that is funded by a tax-favored, investment-grade life insurance policy can give the retiree much more income on retirement than qualified retirement plans. This situation arises because money is contributed after-tax, and the growth of the policy is tax-deferred. Private pension plans generally have fewer restrictions, although there are three IRS rules that must be complied with to retain the tax-favored status, and there are no penalties for early withdrawal.
