How your practice can survive a restructuring 'workout.' (restructuring a failing medical practice)

Article Abstract:

Restructuring a struggling medical practice involves lowering fixed costs such as rents and administrative salaries. Creditors should be approached with a plan to repay them that is financially more attractive than the failure of the practice. They will look for signs that the practice management will share in the financial burden and will appreciate being approached as early as possible. Physicians should always conduct a restructuring in consultation with their attorney in order to develop effective bargaining strategies.

Improve your practice by improving your leadership skills

Article Abstract:

The success of a medical practice often hinges on the leadership qualities of the supervising physician. Good leaders exhibit excellent communication skills, consistency in their approach and the way they treat staff, knowledge of their strengths and weaknesses and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. To become a better leader, a physician must first evaluate how he or she currently makes decisions and learn to pick the best strategy for each situation. A number of management styles is described.

Don't forget your responsibilities as practice's CEO

Article Abstract:

Physicians are the chief executive officers of their practices, and they should accept the responsibilities that come with that position to assure that matters are attended to in the ownerships' best interest. CEO responsibilities include evaluating future options, anticipating changes and thinking strategically. In addition, CEOs should set goals and front-office performance standards in areas such as collections, cash control, ethics and practice policy.
