Nurses' attitudes to sexuality in caring for cancer patients

Article Abstract:

Hospice nurses often have liberal views towards the sexuality of cancer patients, according to a study carried out into how the subject of sex was dealt with at a UK hospice. The results of a questionnaire revealed a need for training courses to teach nurses how to cope with sexual counselling, while the majority of nurses felt sexual relations should be encouraged for people with advanced cancer. Nurses also expressed positive feelings towards nursing homosexual patients alongside heterosexuals.

Nursing a grievance

Article Abstract:

There is a strong feeling among UK nurses that they are not being adequately paid, according to research undertaken by Nursing Times magazine. Many nurses feel that low pay is the main reason why it is proving difficult to recruit student nurses. They believe that recruitment problems also stem from excessive emphasis on academic qualifications. Many nurses object to unsocial hours, staff shortages, the lack of family-friendly work policies and poor working conditions.
