Immunization of adolescents: recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Medical Association

Article Abstract:

Several medical organizations have jointly recommended a routine visit at age 11 to 12 for vaccination. In children not already covered, they recommend immunization against hepatitis B, a second dose of measles-mumps-rubella, and a tetanus-diphtheria booster. They recommend chicken pox immunization in children who have not had the disease, yearly influenza vaccination in susceptible children such as asthmatics, pneumococcal vaccination in those at increased risk for pneumonia such as sickle-cell disease patients, and hepatitis A vaccination for those likely to be exposed to hepatitis A, who have chronic liver disease, or who administer clotting factor.
