Improving surveillance for antimalarial drug resistance

Article Abstract:

The need to develop an early warning system, for resistance to artemisinin and other antimalarial drugs as an urgent priority of malaria control programs and their sponsors, is reviewed. The research has revealed that artemisinin-based combination therapy to impede development of resistance is highly effective against uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria.

Improved diagnostic testing and malaria treatment practices in Zambia

Article Abstract:

A study on all outpatients treated during first working day at government and mission health facilities were conducted. The purpose was to assess the association between use of microscopy and rapid antigen-detection diagnostic test (RDT) and the prescription of antimalarials.

Rectal administration of artemisinin derivatives for the treatment of malaria

A research conducted to find the pharmacokinetics, efficiency and safety of rectally administered artesunate, artemisinin, dihydroartemisinin and artemether for the treatmet of malaria is presented.
