Inotrope therapy

Article Abstract:

Inotropic drugs are mainly used to manipulate the output of a failing heart. Cardiac output is increased by the use of Dobutamine which auguments stroke volume and myocardial contractility. However its use is not without dangers to both patient and practitioner, and nurses must seek be instructed appropriately before managing such therapies. Such drugs should be administered with a calibrated infusion pump, as patients with heart failure can be susceptible to even moderate over administration.

The transfusion of blood and its products

Article Abstract:

Transfusing red blood cells is the most important element of blood transfusions, because of the impact of increasing the body's ability to improve oxygen levels through haemoglobin. It is important to identify blood group type because of the potentially fatal result of giving blood which could cause a negative reaction. The correct quantity and quality of blood should be transfused to prevent associated problems with lungs, blood-clotting or hypothermia.
