Ward sisters' views of the effect of NHS changes

Article Abstract:

Recent research has looked at the impact of changes which have taken place in the NHS over recent years on the working lives of G-grade ward managers. It was found that many ward managers believe that the changes have led to improvements, but that further improvements would take place if charge nurses were to be given more training to deal with their new responsibilities. Respondents also highlighted the need to assess areas for professional development.

Do students know how to cope with death?

Article Abstract:

A survey of student attitudes to patient death has revealed that students should be given regular support from nursing staff and tutors. Twenty four students were questioned before clinical allocation, and many were dreading having to experience death. Second and third interviews were carried out during second, and 4th 5th clinical placements. At the later interviews most students had encountered death.
