Involving the patient in care

Article Abstract:

Managing a leg ulcer can present particular problems in a patient who is severely overweight. In some cases, the patient may be unable to travel to a GP surgery for treatment, and it therefore becomes necessary for the community nursing team to draw up a care contract to treat the patient at home. Limb circumference must be measured in order to establish whether the limb is swollen, and any infection must be treated systemically. The patient must be involved in care, but this can sometimes be difficult if excess weight restricts mobility.

Qualified trainees

Article Abstract:

The main advantage of a new staff nurse development course is that it offers newly-trained staff the chance to look at different types of nursing work before deciding on the future course of their nursing career. The course improved the image of the health authority concerned, had a sound educational basis and gave the participants a much more realistic view of the nursing profession.
