Is the development of a new tuberculosis vaccine possible?

Article Abstract:

This article examines the scientific and political issues surrounding tuberculosis research, its control by vaccine development, and finally a possible eradication. Development of an improved vaccine for tuberculosis, since BCG introduction, poses hurdles in terms of the bacterial unique physiology, lack of an animal model, and diversity of vaccine candidates.

Will we have and why do we need an Ebola vaccine?

Article Abstract:

A DNA vaccine which prevents Ebola virus infection in macaques is assessed, along with its implications for the development of a vaccine for human beings. Further research successes depend on the elucidation of the animal reservoir of the Ebola virus and the mechanics involved in the encoding of interferon antagonists.

Pyrazinamide inhibits the eukaryotic-like fatty acid synthetase I (FASI) of Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that pyrazinamide has a synergistic effect in the treatment of tuberculosis when used in combination chemotherapy with isoniazid and rifampin. Data indicate that pyrazinamide's mode of action is through inhibition of fatty acid synthetase I of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
