Just another miscarriage

Article Abstract:

Research into the socio-psychological effects of miscarriage have revealed a need for sensitive medical care and support in the grieving process. Thirteen women participated in interviews to explore the impact of miscarriage. Data emerged on the initial effects, the acceptance stage and the coping process. The study established that the initial emotional and physical trauma can be reduced by sensitive medical care and psychological support. Factors influencing acceptance of the loss include understanding the cause, encouragement in grieving, the existence of other children and fertility problems.

Women's sexual health care: bringing down the barriers

Article Abstract:

A local community health project initiated in Portsmouth, England, by four students on a night diploma course at the University of Portsmouth was designed to promote positive attitudes towards sexual health among sexually active women. In particular, women were encouraged to carry and use barrier contraceptives. It was hard to evaluate the success of the project, as people were reluctant to give details about their sexual habits, but the reaction from the general public was generally positive.

Is bringing back matron just a publicity stunt?

Two contradictory opinions regarding the possible effects of re-introducing the position of matron in the nursing profession are presented. Whilst one of the opinions deplores the idea, describing it as desperate, the other welcomes the position as capable to refresh the nursing profession.
